Children's Class Descriptions

Pre School JoyDance    2.5-4 yrs

Pre School JoyDance uses hands-on props, live and recorded music, mime tics and more!The overall effect is a creative, dynamic  and fun movement and music learning experience to provide your child with a fun and positive environment in which to explore and learn. Large and small motor skills are developed as well as listening, following directions, taking turns and sharing.

 

JoyDance I    4-5 yrs

JoyDance I introduces the 4-5 yr old student to ways of expressing themselves through movement and creative dramatics. It represents a first step toward the study of ballet and dance; allowing the young student to explore the possibilities of movement and rhythms at the level of their physical maturity.

 

JoyDance II    6-8 yrs

JoyDance II introduces the 6-8 yr old student to the fundamentals of ballet in structured classes with greater emphasis on technique while continuing to explore creative and improvisational movement.

 

Children’s Ballet I, II & III  8 yrs and up

Children’s Ballet I, II and III is for students 8 yrs old and up. Students are taught disciplined technique of classical ballet with its traditions, terminology and technical requirements. Employs individually tailored training recognizing each child’s physical abilities and limitations. This class is designed to develop coordination, proper body placement, strength and flexibility, musicality and creativity and most importantly to enjoy each class thoroughly.

 

Ballet I, II & III  Youth/Adult-Grade 6 & up

Ballet I, II and III is for students Grade 6 and up. Students are taught disciplined technique of classical ballet with its traditions, terminology and technical requirements. Employs individually tailored training recognizing each child’s physical abilities and limitations. This class is designed to develop coordination, proper body placement, strength and flexibility, musicality and creativity and most importantly to enjoy each class thoroughly. Ballet requires no previous ballet experience. Ballet II & III require 1 to 2 yrs ballet training.

 

Pointe

Teacher’s approval necessary as well as appropriate age and proper training.

 

Creative Dance & Modern I  9 yrs and up

Weaving itself throughout the Dancing Tree curriculum, Creative Dance is the focus of this class making it perfect for students who want to dance recreationally and/or pre professionally. Children, youth and adults learn techniques from Modern and Creative Dance while exploring concepts of Space, Time, Weight, Shape, and Flow. Self- discipline, focus, positive social interaction with peers and teachers are modeled and encouraged. Students learn the compositional skills and principles needed to create meaningful choreography, and are given opportunities to improvise and choreograph in small groups, large groups, and as an individual. By taking an active role in their own learning, students become skilled dancers and choreographers, achieving technical mastery and expressivity in an environment where they are challenged to use their critical thinking abilities and celebrated for their creative spirit.

Modern further explores the world of modern dance with heightened emphasis on focus, intent and awareness. Each class begins with warm-up exercises for the back and feet  followed by dance combinations, improv/contact exercises and dance activities designed to enhance creativity and encourage the development of individual expression. Creative/Modern Dance I requires no previous experience.

Youth & Adult Class Descriptions

Creative Dance & Modern II  Youth/Adult-Grade 6 & up

This class utilizes the fundamentals of modern and creative dance to establish a strong technical base for greater freedom of expression and movement. Students will become more articulate with their bodies and be able to explore a greater range of motion. Combinations of movement in the center will build upon earlier technical warm up exercise. Modern classes improve flexibility, strength and endurance as well as increase rhythmic accuracy and musical phrasing. Creative/Modern Dance I requires no previous experience. Modern Dance II & III requires one to two years of training in either ballet, modern or jazz.

 

Jazz I  Youth/Adult-8 yrs and up

Introduces the fundamentals of Jazz technique to your 6 yr old and up. The Luigi  method taught at Dancing Tree emphasizes the isolation of body parts, articulation of movement, rhythmic accuracy and musical phrasing. Exercises that strengthen, stretch, align and coordinate the body are employed. Ballet is the background in jazz styles to be studied preceding or along with Jazz I & II.

 

Jazz II  9yrs and up

Introduces the fundamentals of Jazz technique to the 9 yr old and up. The Luigi method taught at Dancing Tree emphasizes the isolation of body parts, articulation of movement, rhythmic accuracy and musical phrasing. Exercises that strengthen, stretch, align and coordinate the body are employed. Ballet is the background in jazz styles to be studied preceding or along with Jazz I & II.

 

Jazz I &II  Youth/Adult-Grade 6 & up

The Luigi method taught at Dancing Tree emphasizes the isolation of body parts, articulation of movement, rhythmic accuracy and musical phrasing. Exercises that strengthen, stretch, align and coordinate the body are employed. Dance combinations are designed to bring together stylized steps and jazz movement; utilizing energy, dynamics, focus, rhythm, accent and performance. Jazz I requires no previous experience. Jazz II requires one to two years of training in either ballet, modern or jazz.

 

Hip Hop/Jazz I   All Ages

Combination of jazz technique to build strength and musicality ; and hip hop moves for fun and expressivity.

 

Tap I & II  Children & Youth/Adult

Introduces the fundamentals of  Rhythm and Broadway tap dance. Emphasizing accuracy, sense of timing, coordination and the joy of performing(for oneself or others), this class focuses on the coordination of mind and body. Students gain a perceptive sense of rhythm, timing, and phrasing. A fun way to exercise and keep mentally and physically fit, tap is beneficial for all ages

Mommy, Daddy or Caregiver and Baby Class

For fun, fitness and bonding this class is a respite from the hectic day. Nourish yourself with this Pilates-based workout as well as improve your baby’s tracking abilities, increase your strength and flexibility and tone your  abdomen.

 

Pilates-Yoga-Barre

Combining the concepts from ballet, yoga and Pilates, this class is for everyone. Individualized instruction in a classroom setting by  highly trained instructors allows the participants many benefits:

  • improved posture and alignment, improving general mobility
  • longer, leaner muscles
  • improved coordination and balance
  • increased circulation and stamina

Pilates is a unique exercise program that develops core strength, overall flexibility and balances body and mind. Standing warm up with low weights progress into barre and mat work targeting the whole body and specific areas.

Monday Morning Dance Class

Monday morning dance class is a unique individual and group  expressive movement experience.  We meet for an hour and a half (9:30-11am)to express, explore and discover new movement vocabularies in a fun-loving, safe, non-judgmental environment honoring the creativity of each participant.
The three rotating teachers, Lauren Robins, Gracie Broussard and Ann Zbylot each have over 17+ years’ experience leading movement exploration classes.  Each brings a diversity of experience and styles to spark the imagination and engage the body in ways that naturally bring rejuvenation, surprise and insight to the participant.
No movement or prior dance experience is necessary.  Bring your openness and curiosity and see what the creative process has in store for you.

 

Creative Dance & Modern I  9 yrs and up

Recreational & Social Class Descriptions

AquaFitness Mon/Wed at 6-7pm and Friday at 10:30am

“A Fountain of Fun and Fitness,” a therapeutic, nourishing, energizing and relaxing class. It is held at area pools including Unity Pool, one of the most scenic, tranquil environments in Wimberley. The class is designed for everyone, especially those with joint issues, back pain, and loss of mobility. It includes cardio and core-strengthening exercises. Mind/ body connection is emphasized.

Basic Swim

Learn to swim or improve your swimming. DancingTree builds confidence and strong swim skills for children and adults.

Swing, Salsa Social Dance  Youth/Adult

Learn the basics of swing dance and salsa with or without a partner.

Senior Chair Exercise

All ability class including caregivers. Dance elements as well as specific brain/body developmental exercises are utilized.

All Abilities and Outreach Programs

By making dance accessible to everyone, Dancing Tree’s educational outreach programs brings dance and movement into public and private settings. The chief aim of these programs is to foster elements of self-esteem including autonomy, acceptance, success, competence, self-expression and meaningful collective experiences. Lessons emphasize process-centered exploration with components of movement. Improvisation and creating movement by oneself, with a partner or in groups are emphasized. In addition, the abstract art concepts of visual and performing arts such as space, time, rhythm, line, effort and color are explored, stimulating kinetic, spatial, musical and linguistic modalities.

All Abilities Chair Exercise: Breath Awareness Series

Tuesdays, Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.—10:30 a.m.

Your breathing and moving patterns affect every cell of your body. Breathing and moving with more intelligence and awareness supports and enhances a healthier lifestyle. In this class that is both lecture and experimental, we will investigate (1) the anatomy and physiology of breathing and (2) the benefits of very gentle stretching from a seated position to open our bodies. This All Abilities adult class is offered by The Dancing Tree and will be taught by Lauren Robins, Registered Massage Therapist, MS, with 25 years of yoga and dance/movement experience

All Abilities Chair Exercise: Mind, Body, Soul Series

Mondays, 9-10 a.m.
Dripping Springs Library, Dripping Springs, TX

In this All Abilities exercise class for adults, participants enjoy 100% gentle stretching and yoga-based poses all from the comfort of a chair. Besides receiving the physical cardiovascular, conditioning, strength, and flexibility benefits, students are led through a variety of self-care concepts and techniques.

All are invited to come play, laugh, and sing as we experience the physical, social, emotional, and mental benefits of this Mind, Body, Soul series. In each class, we will also explore different forms of meditation, cultivate a gratitude practice, and deepen our breathing techniques to clear nasal and mental congestion.

All are welcome. No experience or equipment is needed.
